15-Semi Chain Reaction Crash Caused By Truckers “Traveling Too Fast,” Police Say

Box Elder County, Utah – The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) said as many as 15 semi-trucks were involved in a chain reaction crash along I-15 near the Box Elder County line on Tuesday.

Officials say icy and snowy conditions wreaked havoc on motorists and truckers on Tuesday along northbound I-15. The UHP said semis spun out of control due to traveling to fast for the conditions and created a chain reaction crash involving as many as 15 big rigs and numerous other passenger vehicles.

NB I-15 is closed near Cedar City. Troopers are reporting that they are dealing with about 15 semis that have spun out after traveling too fast for the winter weather conditions and are now blocking traffic.

Utah Department of Transportation Incident Management Team member Todd Abbott also attributed the mass crashes to the semis not having the appropriate chained tires for the treacherous driving conditions. Thankfully, authorities report no serious injuries were reported.
