3 Children Perish In Accident With Big Rig After Motorist Makes Deadly Decision
Oxford, Iowa – Three children died after a motorist attempted to make an illegal U-turn along I-80 and was struck by a semi on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) the accident happened at approximately 1 p.m.
Terrance Edwards, 62, of Cedar Rapids, was operating a small Kia 4-wheeler along eastbound I-80 at mile marker 235, just west of Coralville, when he attempted to make a U-turn at a prohibited crossing point to head westbound.
Investigators said a tractor-trailer, driven by 52-year-old Slawomir Nowakowki of Anaheim, California, then broadsided the 4-wheeler resulting in the deaths of three children.
ISP has now identified the deceased as 12-year-old Kadaess Adams, 12-year-old Braden Brown, and 11-year-old Oneimus Quaterman, who were all passengers in the Kia.
11-year-old Mason Brown was also traveling in that vehicle and, along with Edwards, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
The condition of Brown and Edwards is unknown at this time.
Nowakowki did not report any injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation.
