44-Year-Old California Truck Driver Found Dead at Illinois Truck Stop
Atkinson, IL – The body of a California truck driver was discovered on Monday after the company he was driving for lost contact with him over the weekend.
Henry County Coroner Melissa Watkins confirmed to Transportation Nation Network (TNN) on Wednesday that the body of 44-year-old trucker Kulwinder Singh, of Delhi, CA, was found on Monday at the Love’s Travel Stop located at 5 South State Street Plaza in Atkinson, IL.
Police were dispatched to the truck stop just before 9:40 a.m. IllinoisNewsNow.com reported.
Local media reports indicate Singh was driving for California Transport Company (CTC), who made contact with Henry County authorities after Singh “repeatedly did not respond to calls.”
CTC told police Singh had not made contact with family, friends and co-workers “since last Friday or possibly Saturday.”
Deputies with Henry County Sheriff’s Department located Singh’s semi-truck at the truck stop and discovered his body.
The case was turned over to the Atkinson Police Department for further investigation.
However, Coroner Watkins says there is “no evidence of an unnatural death.”
Members of Singh’s family took to social media after CTC notified them of the trucker’s passing.
A post, written in Singh’s native Punjab, stated there “is a wave of mourning in the family” following his death.
The family listed Singh’s date of death as Saturday, April 3.
Singh’s parents and brothers, who live in Canada, will be traveling to California for the funeral, according to the post.
The family said Singh will be cremated later this week.
