9 Children Plus Trucker Injured In Crash After Big Rig Tries To Pass School Bus

Muleshoe, Texas – Nine elementary school students and a truck driver were injured on Tuesday after a big rig and a school bus crashed along State Highway 214 and County Road 1028.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) officials, the accident occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 214 and County Road 1028 north of Muleshoe.

Investigators said both vehicles were traveling northbound along TX-214 when the school bus slowed in order to make a left turn onto CR 1028 and head west.


As the bus attempted to make the turn, officials said the semi tried to pass on the left colliding with the front driver’s side of the bus.

Thankfully no one suffered life-threatening injuries.

However, Eight students and the truck driver were taken to the Muleshoe Area Medical Center with minor injuries.

A ninth child was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock.

The driver of the bus did not seek medical treatment.


The students were going home from summer school classes at a Muleshoe elementary school at the time of the accident.

TxDPS officials said charges have not been filed against the truck driver, but the investigation is ongoing.
