Accident Involving 4 Semis Snarls Traffic On Interstate 78

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania – Traffic has been at a crawl in both directions on Interstate 78 in Northampton County near mile marker 68.5, between Hellertown (Exit 67) and Route 33 (Exit 71) after a serious accident involving 4 tractor-trailers and at least one other vehicle. The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m.

From the video report above shared courtesy of WFMZ, tractor-trailers are seen flipped and jack-knifed. Authorities are on the scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted. The wet conditions are reportedly a significant factor as rain has been falling heavily in the area.

A motorist, Thomas Mau, who was stuck in the traffic told WFMZ, “We were hydroplaning all over the place and I was doing about 40-45 (mph), but we were hydroplaning like mad. It was torrential downpouring right before this happened,” Mau said.
