Biden Signs $1.2T Infrastructure Bill Promising It Will ‘Transform Your Lives For The Better’

Washington D.C. — President Joe Biden signed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill into law today promising it will “transform your lives for the better.”

In a signing ceremony on the White House lawn, President Biden celebrated the new law which will deliver $550 billion in new spending over five years including $477 billion for surface transportation programs and roughly $347 billion authorized for highway projects.

“America will once again have the best roads, bridges, ports and airports over the next decade and lead the world into the 21st century with modern cars, trucks and transit systems,” Mr. Biden said.

The President also touted the law’s $7.5 billion to build electric vehicle charging stations.

“This bipartisan law for the first time ever creates a true national network of charging systems for electric vehicles, over 500,000 of them, so you can charge your car here and drive all the way to California and not worry about finding places to charge creating thousands of jobs.”

President Biden has also appointed former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu to oversee the flood of new spending.

“We have the high honor and responsibility to make sure this money is used wisely and well,” Biden exclaimed.

As Transportation Nation Network reported last week, the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) will manage approximately $660 billion of the funding.

As a result, the USDOT will be increasing its workforce by as much as 50%.

Also at today’s ceremony was Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

While offering her remarks, she made clear Democratic leaders are putting the pedal to the metal on passing the second phase of President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda — a nearly $2 trillion piece of legislation packed with a Democratic wish list of social and climate spending initiatives.

“This is a great accomplishment and there’s more to come,” the Speaker declared. “Hopefully this week we will be passing Build Back Better to get tax cuts to America’s working families, create millions more jobs, lower health care costs and all of it paid for by making everyone pay his or her own fair share.”

The President echoed Pelosi’s remarks.

“I’m confident that the House will pass this bill and then we’re going to have to pass it in the Senate. Together with the infrastructure bill millions of lives will be changed for the better.”
