Big Rig Bursts Into Flames After Striking Tractor-Trailer Parked Along Interstate Shoulder
Crisp County, GA – Two people suffered injuries when a big rig struck another tractor-trailer parked along the shoulder of a Georgia interstate early Saturday morning.
According to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the fiery accident occurred along Interstate 75 near mile marker 103 at approximately 2:29 a.m.
Investigators said a FedEx tractor pulling doubles was parked along the side of the roadway when another big rig approached from behind and struck the rear tandem trailer.
The collision caused the tractor of the colliding rig to burst into flames.
Images released by CCSO reveal heavy damage to the rear trailer and packages strewn across the shoulder and into the roadway.
Clean up crews remained on scene for more than 7 hours.
Two people were transported to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, CCSO reported.
Investigators have not yet released the identities of those involved in the crash.
Further, it is unclear what led to the collision and if either driver will be charged.
An investigation by Georgia State Police is ongoing.
