Big Rig Loses Load After Sideswiping Tractor-Trailer In Emergency Lane
Winona, Arizona – A big rig lost its load on Sunday afternoon after sideswiping a tractor-trailer parked in the emergency lane along I-40 east of Flagstaff.
Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) officials said the accident occurred along eastbound I-40 around 4 p.m. at milepost 221, about 5 miles east of the Twin Arrows Casino.
A tractor-trailer was parked in the emergency lane and another big rig sideswiped it, according to investigators.
The semi that struck the tractor-trailer caught fire and the contents of its trailer, a load of produce, spilled out onto the roadway.
Images from the scene released by AZDPS reveal the extent of the mess.
Injuries were reported, however, the names of the drivers involved were not immediately released.
Investigators have not indicated what might have caused the accident.
According to officials, the fire spread across both the eastbound and westbound lanes and emergency crews shut all lanes down while they worked to clear the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
