Big Rig Slams Into Concrete Barrier Spilling Load Of Gatorade, Police Not Yet Saying Why

Albany, Oregon – A big rig hauling Gatorade slammed into a concrete barrier Saturday morning along Interstate 5 near Albany sending dozens and dozens of bottles of the sports drink flying.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP), truck driver Steven Howard, 58, of Salem, was operating northbound along I-5 at approximately 6:50 a.m when he lost control of his rig.

The semi-truck then smashed into a concrete impact barrier between northbound traffic and an exit ramp, according to OSP.

The impact caused the rig skid and roll onto its side in the exit lane, blocking the exit ramp and both northbound lanes, according to investigators.

The crash blocked northbound traffic for approximately 45 minutes until emergency crews could clear the wreckage which included an undetermined number of bottles of Gatorade strewn across the roadway.

Howard suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

His condition has not yet been updated at this time.

Investigators have not yet said what led to the crash.

We will continue to monitor new developments.
