Cruel Twist Of Fate After Trucker Says 4-Wheeler Sent Her Into The Woods
Prince George County, Virginia – Truck driver Sherri E. Thompson, 34, of New York, and her father were traveling along I-95 on Thursday at approximately 6:55 a.m. when she says a 4-wheeler veered into their lane.
Thompson told police she chose to swerve and avoid the 4-wheeler instead of colliding with the vehicle and possibly harming the motorist. Thompson’s big rig crashed through the guardrail and into the woods that line the interstate.
Virginia State Police (VSP) officers were dispatched to the scene and helped rescue Thompson and her father. VSP spokesperson Sgt. Keeli Hill said Thompson and her father were “entrapped” for a period of time, but were able to escape with only minor injuries.
In a cruel twist of fate that many truckers have come to experience all-too-often, VSP cited Thompson for reckless driving and failure to maintain control. So much for giving the professional driver the benefit of the doubt.
Police say the crash is still under investigation.
