DASH CAM: Trooper Narrowly Avoids Head-On Collision With Big Rig In No Passing Zone

Ada, Oklahoma – Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) has just released dash cam video of a trooper narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with a big rig which was trying to pass 4-wheelers in a no passing zone.

The near accident happened Tuesday, November 27 at approximately 4:50 p.m. about a mile south of the junction of SH59A and SH3W north of Ada. The video shows Trooper David Hamilton cresting a small ascending grade in the roadway when he quickly realizes a big rig is traveling directly at him in the wrong lane.

Trooper Hamilton successfully avoids a collision and then can be seen quickly turning around to pursue the trucker. According to OHP, the truck driver was “very apologetic and polite.” The truck driver was cited for left of center in a marked zone and “encouraged to follow the traffic laws to ensure everyone has a safe holiday season,” according to OHP’s Facebook post.

OHP also said that this stretch of roadway is dangerous, adding “this road has seen several fatality crashes in the past 18 months.”
