DEVELOPING: Trucker Found Dead in Truck Stop of Suspected Drug Overdose
Ohio County, WV – A 58-year-old truck driver from Maryland was found deceased inside a Travel Centers of America (TA) truck stop Sunday morning.
According to multiple local news reports, Joseph Fenner, of Baltimore, MD, was discovered at approximately 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2020 in the drivers lounge inside of a TA located in Ohio County near Dallas Pike Road.
Fenner’s co-driver told authorities the two of them watched football on Saturday night before he retired to their truck to get some sleep.
According to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard, when the co-driver returned the next morning he found Fenner slumped over and cold to the touch.
Fenner was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators suspect Fenner perished as a result of a drug overdose.
“It’s possibly an overdose,” Sheriff Howard told local news outlet WTRF. “We’ll have to wait for the medical examiner to determine that, but there were some suspected heroin and other pills that were found.”
Authorities do not suspect foul play and have ruled the case an “unattended death,” until the medical examiner makes a final determination, Sheriff Howard said.
Fenner’s Facebook profile page indicates he was driving for Atlas Van Lines at the time of his death.
Transportation Nation Network will continue to monitor new developments.
