Florida Police Searching For Hit-And-Run Trucker
Polk County, Florida – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is searching for a truck driver they say caused an accident involving a passenger vehicle and another semi before fleeing the scene.
According to FHP, a tractor-trailer was operating westbound on I-4 near milepost 46 at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Saturday when it swerved as it switched from the center lane to the inside lane.
Another semi driven by Phillip Barry Hammon, 54, of Melbourne, and a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by Galla Mercado-Quinones, 18, of Alexandria, Virginia, were following.
As the lead tractor-trailer changed lanes, FHP said it side-swiped the right side of the passenger vehicle.
The doors of the vehicle were ripped off from the force of the collision.
The semi that caused the crash continued on without stopping, according to FHP.
Both Mercado-Quinones and Hammon were wearing their seat belts and were thankfully uninjured.
A description of the offending tractor-trailer is unclear at this time.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the FHP at 813-558-1800.
