Husband/Wife Trucking Team Reportedly Killed in Crash Caused by Drunk Teenage Motorist

Commerce, TX – A teenage motorist is facing felony charges after a crash reportedly left a husband and wife trucking team dead along a Texas highway.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS), the deadly incident unfolded on Saturday at approximately 4:45 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 50 and County Road 4805.

Investigators said a 2007 tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on State Highway 50 when it encountered a 2003 Dodge Ram parked facing north in the southbound lane.

The trucker attempted to avoid a collision, which resulted in a loss of control and the big rig overturning in a nearby ditch.

Both the rig’s driver and a passenger were pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.

Authorities have not released their identities, but according to reports from family members on social media, the two victims were married.

The driver of the pickup truck, Hunter Keith Dawson, 18, of Wolfe City, TX was uninjured.

Investigators said Dawson was drunk and passed out behind-the-wheel at the time of the crash.

He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Dawson was subsequently released on a combined bond of $202,500 ($100,000 bond for each charge of Intoxication Manslaughter and $2,500 for unlawfully carrying a firearm).

The crash remains under investigation.
