Intoxicated Trucker Arrested After Threatening To Shoot Bicyclists
Cranston, RI – A trucker from Texas was arrested in Cranston early Monday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot passersby outside of a bar.
In a media release, the Cranston Police Department (CPD) said they received a call just after 2 a.m. on Monday reporting a truck driver was threatening to shoot people on bicycles on Niantic Avenue.
The caller stated the trucker threatened to shoot him as well.
CPD responded to the scene and said they located 28-year-old Thomas Pierre from Killeen, TX inside a nearby tractor-trailer parked on Navaho Street.
Local news outlet WPRI reported Pierre refused to give officers his name and claimed the truck was not his.
Pierre’s truck was searched and officers found a copy of Pierre’s commercial driver’s license.
They also located a Glock .45 caliber and a Taurus .40 caliber, along with approximately 100 rounds of ammunition, authorities say.
Police say one of the guns was loaded, though they did not specify which one.
Officers learned Pierre had been inside a local bar, the Zona Lounge, and was intoxicated.
The trucker was arrested and charged with carrying firearms without proper permits, carrying a weapon while under the influence, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.
Pierre was arraigned in court Monday morning, where a judge granted him $5,000 bail with surety.
