Iowa Trucker Celebrates 35 Years and 4 Million Miles Accident Free

Davenport, Iowa – Truck drivers who don’t do it right often get media attention, but in no way represent the industry as a whole. So, when truck drivers who are doing it right are highlighted, you better believe we here at Transportation Nation will bring it to you.

Davenport truck driver John Manderscheid has been behind-the-wheel for more than 40 years. He’s driven more than 4 million miles accident free for UPS. WQAD.com produced a feature on Manderscheid that we really enjoyed and thought you would as well.

When asked how he was able to drive so many miles without a single incident in the often treacherous Iowa winters and road conditions Mr. Manderscheid explained, “You gotta bring your A-game to work every day. There’s no doubt about that.”

“I enjoy every minute of it. Sometimes it’s pretty nerve racking when you’re driving on two inches of ice in a 35 miles-per-hour crosswind,” Manderscheid said. “When I look back over the 40 years, if I had it to do all over again I’d still do it.”

We salute Mr. Manderscheid and all safe, professional truck drivers who get the tough job done every day!
