Lawmaker Proposes Renaming Florida Highway After “One of the Greatest Presidents”

Tallahassee, FL – A Florida lawmaker has stated his intention to sponsor an amendment to rename a state highway after President Donald John Trump.

On President Trump’s last full day in office, Rep. Anthony Sabatini announced he will introduce the amendment during Florida’s upcoming legislative session.

The amendment will propose U.S. Highway 27 be renamed the “President Donald J. Trump Highway.”

Sabatini, who is a member of the Republican party, was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2018.

He called the renaming of the highway an “important designation” to honor “one of the greatest Presidents in American History.”

In Florida, Hwy. 27 spans 481 miles from north to south.

In 1999, the Florida Legislature voted to name Hwy. 27 the “Claude Pepper Memorial Highway,” after former Democratic legislator Claude Denson Pepper who served in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

Pepper passed away while he was a sitting United States Senator in 1989 at the age of 88.

This year, the Florida Legislature will convene on March 2 and will meet for 60 consecutive days.
