Loading Dock Accident Claims Young Trucker’s Life
Germantown, NY – A 25-year-old trucker was tragically killed in a loading dock accident in New York last week as he was helping a co-driver load a trailer.
According to the New York State Police (NYSP), the fatal accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Friday, October 2.
Trucker Matthew Austin, of Millbury, MA, was loading at Taconic Biosciences, located at 273 Hover Avenue in Germantown, NY.
NYSP said Austin had been helping his co-driver load a trailer when, for unknown reasons, the 2020 Freightliner rolled backwards, pinning Austin between the trailer and the dock.
He was med-flighted to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Austin was a driver for Brockton, MA-based BioTrans LLC at the time of his death.
According to Austin’s family, he received his CDL in October 2018.
Austin received a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Ecology in May of the same year, but soon “found a new love in truck driving.”
He loved America and enjoyed the opportunity to travel across it through his career as a professional driver, his family said.
“He loved finding the little out of the way treasures, along with the amazing scenic views,” his family shared.
Austin enjoyed sharing his adventures as a trucker after every trip.
NYSP said the accident is still under investigation.
