Mack Trucks Reaches “Tentative” Deal with UAW to End Almost Two-Week Strike

Macungie Township, PA – The United Auto Workers (UAW) strike against Mack Trucks came to an end on Friday at 9 a.m. after almost-two weeks.

On Thursday, UAW and Mack Trucks announced they reached a tentative deal on a new four-year agreement, which would bring the 12-day strike to an end.

Both parties made announcements that the strike would officially come to an end at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, October 25.

“We are pleased to report that UAW and Mack have reached a tentative agreement on the terms of a new four-year agreement that would cover approximately 3,500 UAW-represented employees at our LVO truck plant, Hagerstown powertrain plant, Mack Customer Center, Middletown remanufacturing plant, and Baltimore and Jacksonville parts distribution centers,” the Union said in a statement.


According to both parties, a “a staggered ramp up” will begin Monday, October 28 and will include “essential employees to ensure a safe start up.”

The strike began at 11:59 p.m. on October 12 after the parties were unable to reach a deal following the expiration of the previous contract on October 1.

UAW cited numerous unresolved issues between the Union and Mack leading up to the strike, including, but not limited to: wage increases, pension and 401(k) issues, health care, prescription drug coverage, work schedules, overtime, and job security.

The details of the new agreement have not yet been made public.

In a statement, Mack Trucks said the company “will bring its UAW-represented employees back to work as soon as possible, and expects to have its industrial system ramped up to full production in several days.”


Mack also declined to comment further on the proposed agreement “pending ratification by the various UAW Locals involved in the negotiations.”

Ratification meetings are being scheduled by the Union, according to Mack.
