Man Arrested For Attempting to Murder Trucker Along Interstate

Jackson, MS – Mississippi authorities have arrested a man in connection to a gunfire attack on a big rig last week along Interstate 55.

According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (MBI), the shooting occurred on Friday, January 15, at approximately 1 p.m. in Yazoo County.

Investigators say Markea C. Simmons, 25, of Goodman, MS, was driving a blue Chevy Tahoe and operating northbound on I-55 when he fired multiple shots into the cab of a semi-truck.

The trucker, who was also traveling northbound, was able to safely stop along the shoulder of the roadway, MBI reports.

Thankfully, authorities say he was uninjured in the attack.

The suspect continued north on I-55.

However, a subsequent investigation led MBI officials to Simmons.

He was arrested on Saturday, January 16 and is facing charges of Attempted Murder and Drive By Shooting.

Simmons is being held at the Yazoo County Correctional Facility awaiting his first court appearance, according to MBI.
