Man Charged With Murder After Trucker Dies From Multiple Stab Wounds
Richmond, IN – The man who brutally attacked a trucker during a dispute earlier this month is now facing a murder charge.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, 55-year-old Angel Cruz, of Miami, Florida, succumbed to his injuries last Friday.
Cruz sustained numerous stab wounds to his neck and torso during an attack by co-driver 47-year-old Pavel Nery-Gonzalez, also of Miami, Florida, on August 16 along I-70.
Investigators said the incident occurred at approximately 6:09 p.m. along eastbound I-70 near mile marker 154.
Authorities received a call about a disabled semi and dispatched deputies to the scene.
Upon arriving to the scene, officers say they discovered two men, later identified as Cruz and Nery-Gonzalez, inside the truck.
Cruz was suffering from multiple stab wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery to save his life.
Authorities indicated Nery-Gonzalez admitted to stabbing Cruz and he was subsequently taken into custody and charged with attempted murder.
Nery-Gonzalez has now been charged with murder, Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter said in a release on Friday.
Nery-Gonzalez is being held in the Wayne County Jail.
Authorities have not yet revealed the nature of the disagreement between the two men or what led to the violent altercation.
However, new reports indicate the two men had been driving team together for 3 months before the fatal attack.
