Man Murders Trucker at Truck Stop to Steal His Rig After Killing Woman, Police Say

San Antonio, TX – A 32-year-old man is facing capital murder charges after police say he killed a woman and a trucker on Tuesday morning.

The New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) said the deadly scene unfolded in the early morning hours on Tuesday when Sacramento Martinez, of Austin, TX, shot and killed 33-year-old Marisol Martinez, also from Austin.

NBPD said officers responded to a report of a single vehicle accident in the 3900 block of I-35 North near the Walmart Distribution Center at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

When first responders arrived they discovered a black Ford Expedition parked on the shoulder of the highway with Marisol dead inside.

“The investigation so far has revealed that the suspect and the victim had previously been in a relationship and that the victim had a protective order issued against the suspect stemming from a family violence/strangulation incident from March of 2019,” NBPD said in a statement on Wednesday.

After allegedly killing Marisol, NBPD investigators say Martinez then fled on foot and ran across the highway to a TravelCenters of America (TA) located at 4817 I-35 North.

Investigators believe Martinez then shot and killed 45-year-old truck driver Daniel Sieger of Mission, TX, before stealing his rig and driving away, with Sieger still inside, at a high rate of speed.

According to a friend of the Sieger family, Daniel had just become a trucker and was on his first run when he was murdered.

Martinez later crashed the big rig in downtown San Antonio near the intersection of Casa Blanca and Austin Street, close to the I-35/I-37 interchange.

Witnesses said they saw a man running from the crash scene.

NBPD identified Martinez as that man.

Martinez is currently being held at the Bexar County Jail without bond and is awaiting transfer to the Comal County Jail.

Further, NBPD indicated additional charges will likely be filed.
