Manhunt Ongoing for Man Accused of Trying to Murder Wife by Pushing Her in Front of Semi
Pasco County, FL – A manhunt is underway for a Florida man who is accused of attempting to murder his wife by pushing her in front of a semi-truck on Interstate 75 in Pasco County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident took place Thursday morning around 9:30 a.m. along the southbound shoulder of I-75, just north of Wesley Chapel.
Authorities arrived to the scene after receiving multiple calls about a woman being beaten and attacked on the side of the road at mile marker 282.
The female victim, along with several witnesses, recounted to officials what allegedly happened.
FHP said 45-year-old Joey Edward Morgan, of Summerfield, was in the passenger seat of a Dodge Ram pickup truck hauling a utility trailer and being driven by his wife.
Morgan’s wife, whose name with withheld by officials, told investigators the pickup experienced a blowout while driving on I-75.
The victim alleged Morgan “yanked the steering wheel to the right, nearly causing a full loss of control, before the victim was able to come to a stop along the outside shoulder of the roadway.”
An argument then ensued between the husband and wife, who have been married for 12 years.
Investigators state during the course of the argument, Morgan made repeated threats to kill his wife.
Morgan then reportedly walked around to the driver’s side of the vehicle and pulled his wife out of the pickup by her hair.
Witnesses said he head-butted the victim and punched her numerous times before pushing her into the path of an approaching semi-truck.
The truck’s driver — whose identity was also not released — took “evasive action to avoid colliding with the victim,” FHP stated.
Due to the trucker’s quick thinking and masterful maneuver, the victim did not receive further injuries and the semi did not crash.
Morgan then fled the scene on foot and disappeared into woods nearby.
FHP, along with officers from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), attempted to find Morgan, but have been unable to do so.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of attempted murder.
Anyone with any information on Morgan’s whereabouts are asked to call FHP at (813) 558-1800.
