Motorist is Lucky to be Alive After Loose Big Rig Wheel Obliterates Pickup Truck
Emory, UT — A motorist is lucky to be alive after a big rig tire crashed though the windshield of the vehicle he was driving over Thanksgiving weekend.
According to the Park City Fire District (PCFD), the incident took place on Sunday along Interstate 80 near mile marker 177 in the eastbound lanes.
PCFD stated a semi-truck was traveling on I-80 westbound when, for unknown reasons, one of the truck’s tires disengaged.
The wheel rolled into the eastbound lanes, where it struck a Ford pickup truck head-on.
The commercial tire slammed into the pickup’s windshield, completely shattering it and severely damaging the vehicle’s roof.
Photos from the scene show the tire landed in the backseat area of the pickup truck.
PCFD confirmed the driver of the vehicle — whose identity was not released — was miraculously uninjured in the incident.
Authorities stated the male driver was able to duck to the left to avoid being hit by the runaway tire.
“Another few inches would’ve been a different story,” PCDF wrote.
No details were given regarding the semi-truck or its driver.
