Motorist Makes Deadly Decision Before Crashing Into Rear of Tractor-Trailer
Will County, IL — A motorist lost his life after crashing into the rear of a tractor-trailer last week along an Illinois interstate.
Illinois State Police (ISP) tell Transportation Nation Network (TNN) the accident occurred on Friday, January 21, at approximately 11:47 a.m. on Interstate 55.
According to ISP, at the time of the accident traffic along northbound I-55 was backed up due to a previous crash.
ISP told TNN 36-year-old motorist Timothy Thomason, of Gardner, IL, changed lanes and “failed to reduce his speed” shortly before colliding into the big rig at mile marker 244.
Jarring aerial images captured by local outlet ABC 7 show Thomason’s silver sedan crumpled under the semi-tractor.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified to TNN as John David, 52, of Roanoke, VA, was uninjured.
David will not be cited, ISP confirmed to TNN on Monday.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours as emergency crews cleared the fatal scene.
