New Bill Aims to Stop ‘COVID-19 Heroes’ From Being Fired Due to Biden’s Vaccine Mandates

Washington D.C. — Newly introduced legislation would prevent truckers and other essential workers from being fired due to President Biden’s sweeping vaccine mandates.

On Tuesday, a group of seven Republicans serving in the United States Senate introduced the Keeping Our COVID-19 Heroes Employed Act.

The proposed bill would exempt any worker deemed “essential during the response to the COVID–19 pandemic” from vaccine mandates imposed by the Federal Government, public or private federal contractors, private entities receiving federal funds, and any public entity that has received pandemic-related relief funding.

“The COVID-19 vaccine mandate being forced upon America’s workers is yet another example of the Biden Administration’s government overreach,” said Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), a sponsor of the bill. “We should be protecting our frontline essential workers who served courageously—despite the hardships and health risks—during the COVID-19 pandemic, not issuing unlawful federal mandates that threaten their jobs.”

This effort to protect the jobs of frontline workers comes in response to President Biden, last month, issuing two Executive Orders (EO) imposing COVID-19 vaccination requirements on federal contractors and private businesses with 100 employees or more, including trucking companies.

The “emergency rule” targeting businesses with 100 employees was crafted by the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

It is currently under review by the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.

Public Opinion

A recently released poll reveals that the overwhelming majority of Americans do not want workers fired if they choose against taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to a survey conducted by the Trafalgar Group, 65% of “likely general election voters” believe workers should not lose their jobs for refusing to be vaccinated.

President Biden Defends “Mass Firings”

Despite public opinion on the issue and amid thousands of Americans losing their jobs due to federal, state and local vaccine mandates, President Biden remains steadfast in his position.

The President even defended “mass firings” during a speech earlier this month in IL, and as recently as last week during a CNN Town Hall.

“When you see headlines and reports of mass firings, and hundreds of people losing their jobs, look at the bigger story,” Mr. Biden said. “These requirements work. More people are being vaccinated.”
