Outrage Erupts After Ottawa Government Warns Protesting Truckers Could Lose Their Pets
Ottawa, ON — Outrage erupted this week when Ottawa officials warned protesters demonstrating in the nation’s capital could lose their pets.
In a social media post on Thursday, Ottawa By-law & Regulatory Services informed what would be done with pets of demonstrators who refuse to leave and are arrested.
“If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will placed into protective care for 8 days, at your cost,” the Tweet states. “After 8 days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished.”

A flood of comments condemned the policy and those who are carrying it out.
“This is pure evil,” one commenter said.
“What happens after the animals are ‘relinquished?’ You put them down?” another person questioned.
“This level of evil was unimaginable just 5 years ago,” another commenter asserted.
The Tweet even caught the attention of the world’s richest person, Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
He simply responded by sharing a broken heart emoji.
