Overturned and Overweight

Bennington, Vermont – Vermont State Police (VSP) reported an overturned semi along the side of the U.S. 7 exit 2 offramp Wednesday morning was running overweight.

The semi was hauling an open load of stone. The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicle Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, which assisted with the crash, said the load was 18,000 pounds overweight. The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old man from North Hoosick, N.Y., was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.


Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the crash. No other vehicles were involved. No charges have yet been filed against the truck driver.

Bennington Rescue, Bennington Fire Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department, the Vermont State Police, the Bennington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Bennington Police Department assisted at the scene.
