Police Hope DashCam Will Help Identify Hit-and-Run Motorist Who Caused Trucker’s Death
Birmingham, AL – Authorities in Alabama are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a trucker last year.
The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, shortly after 5 p.m. at the Interstate 65 and Interstate 59/20 interchange.
Police say 59-year old Charles Eugene Pearce, Jr., of Gulf Shores, AL, was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-65 when his rig was struck by another car.
Pearce’s truck — which was hauling cars — struck a black Jeep Cherokee.
Both vehicles exited the roadway to the left and dropped 25 feet onto I-59/20 northbound below.
Pearce was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Dashcam footage of the incident reveal the vehicle that struck Pearce’s truck — a small silver sedan — was first hit by an unidentified white vehicle, causing it to propel into Pearce.
The driver of the white vehicle fled the scene.
Police are still searching for the driver of the white vehicle and are seeking the public’s help.
According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), the white vehicle could possibly be a Nissan Cube.
