Police Looking for FedEx Trucker Who Crashed Into Police Cruiser and Fled

Polk County, IA – Authorities in Iowa are searching for a FedEx truck driver after he allegedly plowed into a police cruiser along Interstate 80 on Thursday.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), officers and emergency response personnel were on the scene of an accident involving a tractor-trailer along the eastbound lanes of I-80 at approximately 3:30 a.m., when the driver of a FedEx big rig traveling eastbound lost control.

The officers ran for cover as the FedEx semi plowed into a police cruiser.

PCSO released photos (below) of the cruiser following the crash.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

However, Sgt. Alex Dinkla, a spokesman with the Iowa State Patrol, says the truck driver did not stop for questioning.

“The semi driver actually left the scene of the crash. We still have not located that truck or the truck driver,” Dinkla said to the Des Moines Register.

Dinkla says there are no photos of the truck, but there should be damage to its driver’s side.

“First and foremost we have to find that truck and make sure that driver is okay, but yeah he left the scene of the crash … there could be charges,” Dinkla said.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the authorities at (515) 725-0010.

Icy and snowy road conditions were factors in both crashes, investigators said.
