Police Say Distracted Truck Driver Plowed Into Road Grader
Spangle, WA – Washington State Patrol (WSP) said a semi driver was distracted when his big rig plowed into a road grader Tuesday morning.
WSP said a semi-truck was driving on Highway 195 near Spangle Creek at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday when it slammed into a road grader. The semi was traveling about the speed limit of 60 mph, while the road grader was going 20 mph at the time of the crash, WSP said.
According to investigators, the truck driver admitted to momentarily reaching down to grab something and briefly taking his eyes off of the roadway. That’s when officials said the semi struck the grader.
Authorities said the semi then slammed into the guard rail before coming to rest. The truck driver was uninjured, but the driver of the grader had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
TRAFFIC ALERT: WSP says the driver of the road grader was sent to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver is not hurt. WSP says the guard rail really helped prevent the truck from going off the road. @kxly4news pic.twitter.com/lpcnNKC3P0
