Police Say Truck Driver Caused Fatal 11-Vehicle Crash, Negligent Homicide Charge Filed

Gonzales, Louisiana – Truck driver John White, 56, of Ecru, Mississippi, has been charged with one count of negligent homicide and 18 counts of negligent injuring after allegedly causing a fatal 11-vehicle chain reaction crash Wednesday night.

White was operating a Freightliner semi eastbound along Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday when Louisiana State Police say White failed to stop in time to avoid crashing into traffic which had stopped due to a previous accident. White’s semi plowed into the rear of the traffic jam setting off a chain-reaction crash that resulted in the death of motorist Julie Holmes, 46, of Gonzales.

The fatal crash also left 17 others injured. Police do not think impairment is involved in the crash, but are continuing to investigate what led to White’s alleged negligence.
