Police Searching For Truck Driver Suspected in Bridge Hit-And-Run
Indianapolis, IN – Police in Indianapolis are searching for a truck driver who struck and damaged an overpass, sending debris into the roadway, before fleeing the scene early Friday morning.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the semi-truck was southbound on Interstate 465 when it struck the 75th Street bridge in the early morning hours on Friday.
The impact took a “large chunk” out of the overpass and debris fell over the interstate below.
The driver then fled the scene, authorities said.
Another semi was allegedly damaged after it ran over the debris, authorities said.
BRIDGE STRIKE + HIT & RUN: ISP tells me a semi driver hit the 75th St bridge while traveling SB on I-465 (NE side), and then fled the scene. I’m told they’re still looking for the semi (which is possibly hauling a backhoe on a flatbed trailer). #NewsTracker #Daybreak8 pic.twitter.com/WSjRNshIlj

The size of the concrete chunks that fell from the bridge are said to be the size of baseballs or bigger.
Luckily, IMPD has not reported any injuries as a result of the bridge hit and run.
A portion of I-465 was shut down briefly while crews cleaned the debris that fell into the roadway.
All lanes of I-465 reopened by 10 a.m. local time.
Mallory Duncan from the Indiana Department of Transportation said the 7th Street bridge over I-465 will need repairs.
Duncan told WISH-TV that the repairs should happen within the next week, but traffic to the bridge will remain open.
Police are asking anyone with any information about the trucker to contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
It is believed the truck may be hauling a backhoe on a flatbed trailer.
