Questions Remain After Truck Driver Killed in Fiery Underpass Crash
Franklin, TN – A Florida truck driver has succumbed to injuries he suffered in a fiery crash involving three vehicles last week along Interstate 65 in Tennessee.
According to the Franklin Police Department (FPD), 25-year-old truck driver Yuniel Reyes Abreu, of Florida, has passed away after crashing into an overpass support along I-65 southbound on Thursday, October 3.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m.
Investigators say Abreu, for reasons not yet known, lost control of his big rig and crashed into the support column at Murfreesboro Road.
The tractor-trailer quickly burst into flames, officials say.
Abreu was able to climb out of the truck, but was badly burned.
He was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he remained in critical condition until his passing the following day, FPD announced on Monday.

Abreu was pulling a flatbed loaded with “several steel rings and a large block of metal weighing about 10 tons,” according to FPD.
A part of the load struck an SUV also traveling southbound.
Additionally, the force of the collision caused debris from the semi-truck to strike a northbound passenger vehicle.
FPD investigators say no one else was seriously injured and the damage to the passenger vehicles was only “minor.”
Those mourning the passing of Abreu have since taken to social media to post pictures and messages of condolences.
According to family members, Abreu leaves behind a wife, who is pregnant, and another young child.
A Facebook fundraising effort has already raised $15,500 with a goal of $30,000.
Investigators do not suspect impairment to have played a role in the deadly crash.
However, the accident remains under investigation.
