Questions Remain Unanswered After Early Morning Crash Leaves Trucker Dead

LaPorte County, IN — A 59-year-old trucker was confirmed dead on Wednesday morning after crashing into a ditch along an Indiana interstate.

According to Indiana State Police (ISP) investigators, the deadly accident occurred at approximately 2:24 a.m. on Interstate 94 at the 44.9 mile-marker.

ISP said Daniel Ray Clark, 59, of Marshall, MI, was operating a 2020 Freightliner pulling one trailer eastbound when, for unknown reasons, he left the lanes of travel and struck the outside guardrail.

Clark then drove off the shoulder and into the right ditch where the big rig came to a stop.

Emergency crews dispatched to the scene found Clark unresponsive, ISP said.

He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he was declared deceased.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted by the LaPorte County Coroner.

The right lane of the roadway was closed for 1.5 hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

ISP indicated the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
