Quick Response Averts Disaster After Swift Big Rig Takes Out Fuel Pump
Adair, IA – A truck driver’s mistake could have resulted in a disaster this morning at a gas station in Iowa after officials say he took out a diesel pump, sparking a fire.
Adair Fire & Rescue (AFR) was called to the scene of a Kum and Go at 2:45 a.m. on Friday after a Swift big rig crashed into a diesel pump.
Officials said the result of the collision caused electrical wires to spark and then ignite.
“Kum and Go employees were able to act quickly and perform the emergency shutdown, which helped tremendously,” an AFR social media post said. “Within a few minutes, we were on scene and got a quick knockdown preventing the fire to reach any buildings.”
Making matters a bit more challenging was the fact the nearby water tower is currently under maintenance and water pressure was low, AFR said.
Water had to be hauled to the scene by nearby fire departments to extinguish the flames.
Images from the scene reveal the utter destruction of the trailer and fuel pump.
Officials did not identify the driver involved.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported… except maybe the truck driver’s pride.
