Sleeping Team Driver Killed After Co-Driver Overturns Big Rig
Alamo, Nevada – A truck driver was sleeping when he perished in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning along SR 318 near Alamo.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the crash occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. near mile marker 6.
A team driver was asleep in the sleeper when his co-driver, for “unknown reasons,” lost control of the semi-truck.
According to NHP, the driver swerved off of the roadway and overcorrected before overturning.
Investigators say the co-driver was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Officials also confirmed the driver who was operating the semi at the time of the fatal crash suffered critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The truck driving team was on its way from Idaho to California with a load of stone.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the drivers.
NHP says it is continuing to investigate the crash.
