TA Lays Out Ambitious Plan to Open More Than 20 Franchise Locations This Year

Westlake, OH – TravelCenters of America Inc. (TA) has big plans in 2021 and expects to open more than 20 franchise locations across the nation.

In an business update this week, the truck stop giant which operates the TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express travel center brands, indicated it intends to open at least 23 franchise locations in 2021.




 

In 2020, the company signed 21 franchise agreements and opened 10 new franchise locations.

A TA travel center opened this week in Huntington, OR, located on Interstate 84 at exit 353, which is the company’s first franchise site to open in 2021.

Two more franchise locations are slated to open in the first quarter of the year with 20 more anticipated to open by the end of the year in the following states: Alabama, Georgia, California, Kansas, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin.




 

In addition, TA says it is currently negotiating franchise agreements for more than 20 travel centers across the U.S. and has more than 80 other potential franchise agreements in its pipeline.

“We’re expanding our footprint by focusing on strategic locations that will help us fill geographic gaps in our network and better meet the needs of our customers,” said Jon Pertchik, CEO of TA.

“For truck stop and travel center owners, joining the TA network provides clear benefits and is an attractive opportunity. Most importantly, we support and invest in our franchisee partners and are deeply committed to helping their businesses grow and prosper over the long term.”

Last year saw significant changes to the company’s management team as it underwent a reorganization and laid off 130 corporate workers.




 

Additionally, in April, TA furloughed more than 3,000 employees primarily as a result of its full-service restaurant closures due to widespread COVID-19 mitigation policies.

At the time the company said it was making the moves to boost “to improve operational efficiency and profitability.”

“It’s an extremely exciting time here at TA, as we are transforming our business, refreshing our travel centers and reimagining the guest experience,” Pertchik said this week.

According to the company, approximately 90% of America’s top 100 largest fleets choose TA to provide fuel and truck maintenance services, as well as a loyalty program, food and other amenities to their drivers.
