These Aerial Views of Icy I-95 Nightmare Are ‘Astonishing’
Fredericksburg, VA — Perhaps nothing reveals the enormity of the nightmare thousands of truckers and motorists faced this week along Interstate 95 in Virginia more than views from above the icy roadway.
A crash involving six tractor-trailers along I-95 on Monday led to a shutdown of the interstate in all north and southbound lanes between exit 104 and exit 152.
Traffic quickly came to a standstill along the nearly 50-mile stretch as transportation officials and emergency crews were caught seemingly unprepared by the winter storm which left over a foot of snow in many areas.
What many drivers believed would likely be a few hour delay turned into a dangerous and infuriating ordeal lasting more than 24 hours.
While there has been extensive coverage on the incident, “astonishing” aerial images give a perspective unlike any other.

After more than 27 hours of drivers being stranded and trapped on I-95, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Virginia State Police (VSP) officials were finally able to clear and reopen the roadway.

However, as Transportation Nation Network reported on Tuesday, those who were stuck in the debacle and the millions of Americans watching it unfold on television and social media will not soon forget the incident.
