TRAVEL ADVISORY: Stretch of Interstate 84 in Oregon Closed Due to Wildfire

Wasco County, OR – A stretch of Interstate 84 in Oregon is closed due to a wildfire which is causing limited visibility for motorists.

According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 between milepost 87-64 and Hwy. 30 are closed as emergency response crews battle a “brush fire.”

OSP posted the announcement to social media on Wednesday afternoon citing “no visibility” as the reason for the closure.

“Please use extreme caution,” OSP urged. “There is still active fire in the area. Be prepared for delays, frequent stops, and possible road closure.”

The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) also took to social media to announce a Level 3 Evacuation of surrounding areas including for Port of The Dalles, Golf Course Apartments, Pinewood Mobile Manor and Discovery Center.

Authorities have not yet provided a timetable on when to expect the interstate to reopen.

OSP urged all travelers to monitor Trip Check for updates.
