Truck Driver Allegedly Steals Semi Over Unpaid Wages Dispute

Louisville, Kentucky – A truck driver was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly refused to return a semi-truck to its owner due to a dispute over unpaid wages.

According to Louisville Metro police, David A. Demps, 53, of Louisville, was arrested at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday after authorities say he stole a semi.

Demps was operating the Freightliner semi along Fern Valley Road when police spotted the truck and pulled Demps over to conduct a safety inspection.

Authorities then ran a vehicle registration check which revealed the truck had been reported stolen in Illinois.

Investigators say the owner of the truck had delayed reporting the vehicle stolen because of an ongoing dispute with Demps.

According to police, Demps believed he was owed additional pay for numerous runs he had completed and was holding the truck until he was compensated.

Demps was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking of an auto valued at more than $10,000.

He was subsequently booked into Louisville Metro Corrections.

This is a developing story.
