Truck Driver and Passenger Killed When Big Rig Crashes Into Bridge Support Beam

Robbinsville, NJ – A truck driver and passenger lost their lives after they big rig they were traveling in crashed into a bridge support beam late Thursday evening along a New Jersey interstate.

According to New Jersey State Police (NJSP), the deadly accident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike near mile marker 60.3.




 

Investigators said a tractor-trailer hauling watermelons left the roadway before slamming into a bridge abutment.

Images from the scene reveal the immense impact of the collision as the tractor was destroyed and the trailer was left mangled.

The rig’s load of watermelons were also left strewn across the Turnpike.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.




 

Further, investigators have also not yet disclosed what likely led to the deadly incident.

NJSP indicated the investigation is ongoing.
