Truck Driver Awarded $3.38 Million For Injuries Suffered In Crash With Another Truck
Tampa, Florida – Truck driver Joel Capote of Tampa, Florida, has been awarded $3.38 million by a jury verdict stemming from injuries he sustained in a July 2016 accident with another commercial truck. Capote owned and operated his own trucking company at the time of the accident.
He was traveling eastbound on State Road 674 in a Mack dump truck when another dump truck headed in the opposite directed entered his path. The two trucks collided and and Capote’s truck was knocked off the road and into an embankment. He suffered many serious injuries which included fractures in his femur, fibula and tibia bones; as well as multiple facial and spinal fractures. Additionally, he suffered significant facial lacerations to his lips and mouth. He has had to undergo multiple surgeries, intensive care, physical therapy, pain management, and mental health support.
His medical bills quickly mounted and exceeded $500,000. Due to his injuries, his lawyers argued, he has been unable to work and lost his commercial driver’s license.
