Truck Driver Cited For Careless Driving After Rear-Ending School Bus With Children Onboard
Ontario, Canada – A 51-year-old truck driver from Toronto has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act, according to an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) news release. On Wednesday morning at approximately 9 a.m. the tractor-trailer rear-ended a school bus on Highway 34 just down the road from Pleasant Corners Public School, where the bus was headed that morning, according to the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB).
The bus driver was airlifted to the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus. Four children onboard were also taken by ambulances and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, OPP said. Nineteen other children were taken to hospital in another bus, as a precaution.
Two other vehicles were involved in the accident, but the occupants were not injured.
