Truck Driver is “Lucky to be Alive” After Disregarding Railroad Crossing Warning

Baton Rouge, LA – A trucker is being blamed for a scary crash between a big rig and a train in Baton Rouge on Wednesday.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO), a collision between a tractor-trailer and a train occurred at approximately 5:43 a.m. along Thomas Road at Scenic Highway.

An EBRSO investigator said the driver of the truck “disregarded railroad crossing warning devices” which led to the accident.

“The driver was able to extract himself from the vehicle and was transported with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries,” officials said.

Images from the scene reveal a mangled truck cab and a substantially damaged and derailed train car.

Commenters on social media reacted to pictures from the scene posted by EBRSO with amazement that the trucker survived.

“Wow, how did he get out of that??” Sharon Soileau asked.

“He was definitely lucky to be alive,” said Mike Veal.

Bonnie Ramono commented, “Today would be THE day for that truck driver to buy a Lottery Ticket!”

Authorities did not release the identity of the truck driver.
