Truck Driver Runs From Police After Traffic Stop Leads to Human Smuggling Bust

Dimmit County, TX — A truck driver was arrested late last month after a traffic stop led to the discovery of dozens of illegal migrants.

According to the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), the bust occurred on January 30, at approximately 6:45 a.m. when police stopped a tractor-trailer on Highway 85.

A search of the trailer resulted in the discovery of 60 illegal migrants, DCSO said.

The truck driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.

He ran into nearby brush before he was eventually arrested without further incident.

No additional information was given on the driver, though DCSO did release a photo of him.

DCSO said all occupants were also taken into custody and transported to the United States Border Protection processing facility in Carrizo Springs.
