Truck Driver to Face Charges After Arrested in Big Rig Human Smuggling Bust

Sierra Blanca, TX – A truck driver who U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says is a U.S. visa holder was arrested last week in a big rig human smuggling bust.

According to CBP, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 16, when agents conducting traffic check operations at the Interstate 10 immigration checkpoint encountered a tractor-trailer in the primary inspection lane.


A non-intrusive K-9 inspection yielding a positive alert and the truck driver was directed to the secondary inspection lane.

Agents then opened the trailer doors and discovered a total of 49 illegal migrants.

CBP said the individuals were from Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru.

The vehicle was seized and the driver was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

He is expected to be prosecuted.
