Trucker Among Two Dead After Box Truck Crosses Median and Collides With Big Rig

Christian County, KY – A trucker died Friday morning after a box truck crossed the median and collided head-on with the big rig he was operating.

According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP) and the Hopkinsville Police Department, the deadly crash occurred at approximately 8 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 near the Tennessee/Kentucky state line.

Investigators say a Ryder box truck was traveling eastbound when for unknown reasons it crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes.

A tractor-trailer driver was unable to avoid the box truck and collided with it head-on, investigators said.

The vehicles quickly caught fire, KSP said in a release.

Images from the scene reveal the extent of the devastation.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased on the scene.

The identities of the drivers have not yet been released.

Traffic was diverted for hours as emergency crews investigated and worked to clear the crash.

This is a developing story.
