Trucker Arrested on Armed Assault Charge After Truck Stop Argument

LeRoy, IL – An Iowa trucker is facing criminal charges stemming from an argument with two other truckers at an Illinois truck stop.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 13, at approximately 9:40 p.m. at a Love’s Travel Stop located at 505 Persimmon Drive in LeRoy.


According to the LeRoy Police Department (LPD), officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the truck stop.

LPD said a truck driver allegedly brandished a firearm and pointed it at two other truckers during an argument.

The nature of the dispute was not made clear by LPD.

Upon investigation, LPD officers found Michael Hatico, 56, of Dubuque, IA, to be in possession of a .45 caliber Glock handgun.

Hatico was taken into custody without incident and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Disorderly Conduct.


He was transported to the McLean County Jail and released on bond the next day.

Hatico is due back in court on February 24.
