Trucker Confirmed Dead in ‘Near Head On Collision’ Between Big Rigs

Putnam County, TN – Tennessee authorities have confirmed a trucker passed away in a crash involving two big rigs this week along Interstate 40.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) identified Christopher Mooneyhan, 54, of Portland, TN, as the deceased in what investigators described as a “near head on collision” between two tractor-trailers.

The deadly accident occurred on Thursday, June 24 at approximately 8:30 a.m. near mile marker 273.

THP said Mooneyhan was operating a 2014 Freightliner eastbound when he left the roadway, crashed through the cable barrier and crossed the median into the westbound lanes.

Khurshed Ahmedor, 32, of Philadelphia, PA, was operating a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer westbound and was unable to avoid colliding with Mooneyhan, THP said.

Mooneyhan’s Freightliner struck Ahmedor’s trailer before continuing off the right side of the roadway and down an earth embankment.

The Freightliner then burst into flames.

Mooneyhan was pronounced dead on the scene, THP informed.

Ahmedor did not report any injuries.

THP has not indicated what is believed to have caused Moooneyhan to lose control of his vehicle.
